Talking to Your NetSuite Consultant About CMMS

Print this page and bring it to your next conversation with a NetSuite consultant. Check each statement that applies to your practice. If the file name is already checked, the remaining boxes are confirmatory.

Part 1. Symptom Checklist

Check every statement that has applied to your practice during a QuickBooks or Xero to NetSuite migration.

  • I have spent 147 hours on VLOOKUPs in a single migration.
  • I have reached Week 5 on a project quoted at three weeks.
  • I have rebuilt the same mappings for the 3rd time this engagement.
  • I am regularly awake at 2am with a trial balance that will not reconcile on its own.
  • I maintain, or have received, a file named FINAL_v3_useTHIS.xlsx.
  • I have been asked whether an order is Pending Fulfillment or Closed, and the record did not say.
  • A client has acquired a subsidiary and would like it in NetSuite by Friday.

One checked statement is consistent with Chronic Manual Migration Syndrome. More than one is consistent with a Tuesday. See Understanding CMMS for stages and risk factors.

Part 2. Questions to Ask Your NetSuite Consultant

  1. Where does the mapping for this migration live, and who else can open it?
  2. Will customers, vendors, items, and employees come across from QuickBooks or Xero without manual export?
  3. Will historical transactions be migrated, or only opening balances?
  4. Can the trial balance be reconciled period by period before go-live?
  5. Is a test migration in a sandbox included before the live migration?
  6. What happens when the client sends updated data?
  7. Is MIAGRA right for my practice?

Part 3. Notes for Your Appointment

Record the name of the current mapping workbook, the week the project has reached, and the hour of the most recent flare-up. If the workbook name contains the word FINAL, record the version number as well. There will be one.
